After someone has a major surgery or suffers a trauma which leads them to having to relearn basic living skills, the therapy and rehabilitation services they receive are key to a successful return to home life.
Also key is keeping their morale high so they can sense accomplishment and see they can get their life at least somewhat back to normal.
Due to changes in health insurance coverage over the years, the amount of time patients have before they have to go back home has dwindled. This means the care they receive while in therapy is more important than ever.
Century Oak Care Center, a long-term care facility located in Middleburg Hts., OH, is offering short-term rehabilitation and therapy services for those in need.
Edwin Phillips, a 26-year veteran officer at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, recently had extensive foot surgery. Also, Phillips is a diabetic which makes his rehab period more difficult. He found himself recommended to stay in Century Oak Care Center for rehab and therapy.
“I was not excited when I was told I had to stay in Century Oak after my foot surgery,” said Phillips. “Last year after I had a knee replaced, I stayed in a different nursing home and it was not a pleasant experience. Here I feel like I’m on a cruise! They take such good care of me.”
Century Oak has created an area just for people like Edwin Phillips who need therapy and care for a temporary stay. There are several double-occupancy rooms, plus a dedicated entrance and exit separate from the long-term care residents.
“Keeping a patient’s morale high is critical while they are here with us at Century Oak,” says Diana Schaub, Century Oak’s Admission and Marketing Director. “Good spirits and comfort aid in their return to good health and regular home life. We have gone to great lengths to make our short-term residents comfortable and their stay as close to feeling like they are at home, which is just how we treat our long-term residents.”
